  • Moodyman,
Some very valid points there. We were discussing this in the changing room at work and the same point was made but in the words "you are planning on buying a Porsche and then fitting a roof rack and towbar..."

I think I am guilty as charged...

@ byke68- what was up with the revolution cross, out of interest?

It just didn't feel right, coudn't get a comfortable position. Even after up-grading the tyres, it didn't improve the ride. Once saw someone else on one and he didn't look comfortable on it. Had a broken spoke after less than two months. Swapped it for a lurid green GT after a year.

I have a Giant Rapid 1, flat bar road bike, that I bought to replace a Trek MTB. I commute 10 miles across Hull on a mix of cycle paths and poor city roads and the Giant is considerably quicker than the MTB.

I did have a few issues with it when I first got it though, a couple of punctures due to running too low a tyre pressure (my own fault). I was also suprised at how much vibration there was compared to the suspension assisted MTB even though the Giant has carbon forks that are supposed to transmitt less vibration.

I did think initially 'what have I done buying this'; but now I've got a few miles on the bike I absolutely love it, I do have to be more precise about where I'm placing the bike on roads/paths but I don't mind as it's just a great ride.
