Ok so I made an account on RCUK's forum just after Christmas and have had nothing but greif of the members on there. Just a bit of advice here, dont go there, the older members spend their lives on there and disprove everything you say. Its not a nice place. Stay safe out there 8)

PS - I want no hate from this please 8)

You might want to PM Ezy and explain to him that it's no better elsewhere then. He may come out of hiding.

Those fellas from the Research Councils UK only like to talk about academic research - they don't care much for bikes...

IT'S not much better here, you'll get GRIEF OFF everyone.

  • Josh, a few words of sagely advice:

You'll get hammer off everyone everywhere, soon you'll learn to let it wash over you, particularly on forums where the faceless nature of communication promotes the sort of "nastiness" that you wouldn't have if sitting over the table from someone.

You need to be more wary of what you post and note that people will sift through lots of threads and pick up exactly what you have written elsewhere. They will then use this to stick the knife in deeper. Look at Ezyrider's thread on his decals, the first thing that happened was some ribbing on a different thread of his on his love of spacers (!)

As an example, a quick couple of minutes has revealed to me your age, where you live and your experience in riding long distances. I'm not surprised therefore that when you post a hot bath and radox is good recovery from a long ride, you will be accused of being a troll. Even though your answer, based on your personal experience, may have been genuine and honest, people will have thought you were taking the p*ss.

Some people's idea of banter can overstep the mark sometimes but it's still just banter and no-one is really out to bully anyone mercilessly. Again look at Ezy's decals thread, people do really want him back to post his pictures. When/if he ever does, guess what, he'll get mocked again but it's all in good humour.

Never use your own name on a forum, people local to you could pick up on it and then you are in bother. Basic internet security. You will not be surprised to learn that my real surname is not Trousers. That said it's still fairly easy to determine my real identity.

So, start again, change your user ID, post less initially, lurk a bit more and pick up some knowledge of what long distance riding really is and basically what is considered the norm or accepted fact surrounding cycling matters.

Above all, enjoy it and good luck.

Hope this wasn't too patronising mate.

as above, reset time, go anonymous - never, ever, ever, tell the interweb anything you would not want a thief, employer, weirdo, or psychopath to know about you, in fact, you are better off if you plant false information to go with your anonymous identity, i myself am an albanian ex-limbo dancer, now living in exile and making a fine living with my market stall in peckham

i used to spend time on rcuk, it was always a lot smaller than br, most people were ok, but it seemed to change when it was redesigned, never felt the same after that imho

on any forum site there can be a few high-volume/long-term posters who develop a proprietary attitude, and great wrath and hostility will be vented on any upstart n00b seen to question their wisdom or have a different opinion

if someone is being a twunt, don't get sucked into a posting war, if they are petty enough to want the last word, let them have it, you don't have to read it, be content in the knowledge that they are wasting their life shouting into the void
