What second hand AM bike

We're booked to ride Passporte du Soleil in June, and we're planning on spending another day or two riding singletrack in and around Les Gets. So, plan is to buy a second hand bike to take over there but buy with one eye on it being suitable for use in the UK (namely, I'd quite like to start riding the easier runs at Aston Hill as it's 10 mins from home + have something a litte beefier for red route trail centre visits). Current thinking is a circa 140mm travel bike, between £800 - £1000, something along the lines of a Specialized Stumpjumper, Commencal Meta 5, Giant Trance or Zesty. I appreciate these bikes are all slightly different, does anyone own any of these / have any views, or other suggestions??
