As the post asks where would be best. There will be between 4-6 of us. And what bike type is best to take? And would it be a good idea to take the DH bikes?, and if so what suits them best?
cheers!

Wow! How long is a piece of very stretched gear cable??
What kind of riding do you want to do? What kind of skill level do you have? What do you want to achieve out of the holiday? How are you getting there - flying or driving? What suits a DH bike best - people who like to ride bikes on DH courses I'd suggest...

We mainly do trail centers, bit of natural riding, and DH when/where we can. What area is best for DH? Or would we be best taking trail bikes? We are all fairly well experianced and enjoy a challenge. But i was wodering if its worth taking out dh bikes or would we get best use on normal bikes. We are flying, so cant really take a choice of bikes.

Chamonix hosts one of the World Cup DH stages. Chatel is a freeride park specialist and hosts a major competition. Morzine and Les Gets have plenty of DH runs and if you base yourself there you're part of the Portes Du Soleil where there are hundreds of KM of trails. Champery hosts DH and XC UCI cup stages. I'll be heading to Alpe d'Huez this year for a mixture of DH and trails, our group will be riding FR bikes to make the most of both kinds of riding.
If you wanted to ride DH, there are some amazing DH areas. If you want to ride trails, then you will be catered for. You'd be better off deciding what kind of riding you want to do as there is a massive array of all kinds of riding within the Alps. Then we can recommend you the most suitable place to go.
Have a ganders at the costing of an Alps holiday in my blog if you like.
I wrote up our adventure around Morzine in 2011 as well if this gives you any other ideas.
