Well, I used to think it pure fantasy that riders approaching 40 could contest major stage race GCs.
So, I'm now not quite as sure that this is a fantasy too far.
Who knows? He might make it as far as the first hill and add a little colour to drab Denmark.
Having said that, it seems there is no room at the Farnese inn:

Whether he was wanted or not, its not possible according to the rules as he would have needed to be part of the out of competition drugs testing programme for a minimum of 6 months...0 -
The UCI already broke that rule for him when he made a comeback in the Tour of California a few years ago.0

the man is a legend. On one side I think it would be great to see what he could actually do but on the other side no one wants to see him get dropped on the first little hill either.
Great publicity for him and his bikes though.

he used to get off at the feed stop as soon as the tour de france got hilly so I wouldn't have thought he'd be too worried about getting into the car - he used to finish the Giro so he wasn't that bad at the hills.."I get paid to make other people suffer on my wheel, how good is that"
