Can anyone recommend a road shoe for wide feet, I find they are made quite narrow and I tend to get numb feet after some miles needing a stop to recover not ideal.

Tar all.

Sidi do an extra wide version of their shoes called the 'Mega'. I think they're very good, although they are pretty pricey.

P.s. I think Northwave and Lake are supposed to be wide fitting too!

there are two types of shoe for two different types of feet, simply, if all your toes are in line then you require the boxy end looking shoe, if your toes go smaller by each one down to your little one, then you need the shoe with the end that tapers similary. Aside you may need insoles to sort out your numbness, that would require advice from a bike fitter expert.

Think I have got that right above, anyone confirm for me.

Find a good bike shop local to you that stocks a variety of different shoes, or visit several shops, and try some on

You might pay a bit more, but good service and buying the right ones from the off will be worth the extra :!:

Go in and try plenty on in a shop. I've given up buying saddles and shoes online.

As mentioned Sidi have a wide fit (I believe Shimano also do for some of their range as well) and Northwave tend to run wider than most. Specialised are fairly wide up front and the holy grail for me has been Giro which are quite wide in the toe box but narrow for the rest of the shoe.

I found Mavic and Shimano far too narrow (haven't tried the wide fit Shimano though).

    Rough guide:
Regular Sidi are narrow, so they make some of their models in a "mega" version which is nice and wide. Pricey but unrivalled in terms of quality.
Shimano and Bontrager are less narrow but still not very wide. Shimano also produce some models in a wide fitting.
Specialized and Giro could be described as medium width, as I think they are a bit wider than Shimano but still not specifically a wide fitting.
Lake and Northwave give a nice wide fit in their regular shoe, so more choice as all models should be wide enough.
There's always more to it than just the average width of the last that's used by each brand, so just like helmets it's always better to try shoes on if at all possible and compare the fit of a selection of models if you're not sure.
