I picked up this 2011 frameset a couple of weeks ago at a good price and finished putting it all together this weekend. I am really pleased with the way it has ended up - a solid but pretty light build.

I enjoy taking inspiration from others builds so here you go;

Look 586 SL med (2011)
Campag Super Record groupset
Deda Zero 100 bar / 3T Team stem
Fizik Antares saddle
Mavic Kysrium SLR wheelset
15.1 lbs as pictured below

Although the Lightweights will not be used on this bike, I couldn't resist  13.9 lbs as below

Cheers

Beautiful, we'll executed. Nice tidy cabling and spot on bar/shifter placement.

I think the first pic looks more appealing, "plus plyvalent". The lower-pro rims look more suited to either a bash over some un-even Brittany or Belgian roads or a blast from Grenoble or Vizille up the river valley road to Bourg culminating a an assualt up d'Huez.

Stunning. I think I prefer it with the Mavic wheels and I am a sucker for deep section. It just looks right like that. Enjoy. :D
  • Nice bike. Prefer bikes without to much decals on them.. :)

Since you quote Hemingway I didn't think you'd mind if I corrected your sentence:

"nice bike. prefer bikes without TOO MANY decals on them.."

    - Many/Fewer - if things are divisible into countable units like decals, or cars, or issues, or ball bearings, or people, or stage wins then it's fewer/many

    - Much/Less - if things are NOT divisible like money, happiness, confusion, support etc. then it's much/less.

    Thanks, feel better now.

Definitely not stolen, unless it was taken in ex factory condition, boxed up with all of its papers and sent up to Winstanley Bikes in Wigan

There is not a lot of love for the Lightweights on this bike (I agree actually) but my lad has a different view. He will actually be the primary user of this bike but until he can afford them himself, the Lightweights are mine

Nap D - I have always liked the look (no pun) of the Look ISP frames and have run a 595 since 2007 (original white then the black / white team colourway). I have had my eye on a 586 since they were launched and finally decided to give one a try. I have had a quick ride and it feels really nice. As it is set up slightly shorter and lower (for my lad), it doesnt feel quite as "right" as my regular ride but thats no surprise.

FransJacques - thanks for the comments. Your suggestion of how the bike could be used took me back to last August. Here is a pic of the new bikes older brother on the Glandon

The thing I like about Look is that in age of the oversized BB and HT marketing gumph, they remain elegant yet powerful with the shapes.

Something very pleasing to the eye and the more you look at it, the better it gets.

Your 595 is virtually identical to mine. Do you use the LW's on it and if so do they feel different to the DA clinchers? also how do the mavic wheels compare to the DA? The 586 looks very nice.

I have used the LW's on the 595 (it was my main summer use bike until last year) and I have to say the difference, whilst noticable, wasnt staggering compared to the DA clinchers (except maybe how efficient they feel when climbing). The DA wheels really are superb to ride - light, stiff enough and very lively. They are also great in windy conditions. Shimano hit the sweetspot with these wheels. My only regret in moving my main bikes over to Campag is that I cannot use the DA wheels
    -
Having said all that, the LW's are my favourite wheels of all. They offer a bit more of everything - more stiffness, more responsive, more speed and they actually feel utterly bombproof, despite their obvious light weight. They climb like nothing else I have used, in or out of the saddle - I guess thats down to their the stiffness? Comfy too, which I know sounds odd they just are. Not great in winds mind you....Unless its tipping it down with rain or I know winds will gust at 25-30 mph plus, they never come off my bike. I used them on La Marmotte last year and they were just fantastic - up and down.

As for the Mavics, they are nice and stiff but feel a little "wooden" compared to the DA clinchers. The weights are fairly similar (50 gram difference?) but the Mavics are worse in the wind. I would say the DA carry more speed (more Aero?) and offer a less harsh ride. The Mavics do look cool though

Same here - of course, it helps that all their bikes are pretty high end. Ultimately, the likes of Pinarello and Bianchi both sell at the Focus ST end of the market which dilutes the image a bit - Look are more exclusive than that! 8)

the exclusivity with racing pedigree may or may not have been a major influence in my decision. especially as before that i was looking at bikes whos names i had never even heard of but the frames looked amazing. im glad i got a Look in the end though however 'understated' it is.

    which one do you have?

585 Optimum - which I was pointed to initially just for the geometry. But I warmed quickly to it for it's luggy loveliness!

It's still absolutely my pride and joy and I doubt I will sell it. I keep mulling over getting full Record for it but I'm happy with it as it is. Everything spec'd for me so why change anything? (Well - aside from weight; I could probably source lighter bars, stem, saddle and obviously the wheels - I've saved a bit with 23 mm Ultremos but I'm back on the 25mm Duranos at the moment. Would be nice to get it below 7kg). Aside from a Bryton GPS computer, it's still exactly as pictured.

stunning mate, honestly the more i see Looks the more i love them!

Cant wait to unpack mine for the spring/summer. Its been in the box too long. However my phone background is the bike...

Going to treat it to some new wheels this year, doesnt deserve a second hand pair of fulcrum racing 3s on it.

What do you make of the Look bottle cages? I like them for the styling but they dont fit my camelback podium bottles.

Odd - my Camelbak podiums fit fine

I really like them - they seem to be able to hold onto pretty much anything and don't tend to scratch the bottles either. I recall telling Epic cycles that the freebie bottles they gave me didn't fit - they just told me to try harder. And they did! Podia are easier than those due to the tapered base.

    really?

i lost a podium (not a place but the bottle) during a race as it wasnt gripped properly in the cage and flew out.

Wind shear due to the enormous pace you were cranking out

Can the little rubber bits be spaced out so they squash against the bottle more? Not sure. Thinking about it I may have had one partly come out on a high speed downhill bump.

i dont think it went in properly.

the bike isnt even out of storage yet as i dont have a wheelset for it at the moment. hopefully that will change in the next hour as i go to the bike shop to see whats going on.

    fingers crossed.

its not good news, my fulcrum racing 3s are dead. they aren't worthy of the bike but i have nothing to put on there at all now. the PX model bs cant go on there. no idea when i can get the bike out of storage now :(

    Rich, very nice indeed.

Question about your gear cable routing, if I may. Have you crossed the inner cables under the downtube? i.e. right shifter to the left side of the headtube, and the left shifter to the right side of the headtube. My 586 handbook 'suggests' this is the correct routing, but I'm not convinced, so I stayed with convention, but it's niggling me!!

    Here's mine :D

  • All these Look bikes on the forum are stunning - however saw a 2012 586 in black in the flesh and I think this years paint scheme is a bit unimaginative and drab compared to the ones on here.

Thats a very nice looking bike - and used to good effect too!

I have routed the cables on the 586 as you have done and didnt give it a second thought to be honest. On my 595, the internal cable guides are crossed within the downtube however....

I wonder if I should swap the cables round and cross them but it would offend my eyes! We'll see though. If I ever need to change the cables I might experiment a bit......
