i got a truvativ noir crank to go on my hardtail, it's a chromag stylus and the bb is 73mm.. now in the instructios it says not use any spacers for a gxp bb with a 73mm shell. but i aint using a gxp bb i converted my hope bb with the gxp alloy thingys in the non driveside cup,
now the hope bb says use 1 spacer drive on a 73mm shell..
so my query is do i use the spacer as per the hope bb instructions or follow the manufactures instructions (truvativ) and remove the driveside spacer....
thanks...

I'd say go with what hope say, their cups are probably thinner than truvativ ones or something... You can always try it and just see how much spindle is showing anyway.0

it all depends if the Hope bearings need any preload or not.
But I would say no spacer.
Call Hope and check.
and let us know the result."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

I have a 68mm shell with Hope BB (plus the little alloy widget things to make it work with truvativ) & truvativ crank.
It takes 2 spacers one side and one spacer the other.
Going on that I'd guess the 73mm requires one spacer on drive side.
Or no spacer if you have a chain guide of some sort.0 -

TBH you were more likely to get a reply from a phone call."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Oh I am running a BB that can be run shimano or SRAM and I would run it with no spacers. In fact tht is how I fitted it o many bikes.
But it all depends on the bearing design."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

No bearing preload, going by that video, so it looks to me like you wouldn't cause any damage to the bearing or crank without the spacer - but the drive side bearing would just 2.5mm inboard of "optimal" position.0

Hope got back to me today,,, they said to leave the spacer on the drive side cup which is what i had done anyway..
i just wanted to check before i used the bike...
Dart from hope said keep the spacer driveside and put the gxp spacers on the non driveside...
