Nobby Nic pressures for trail centres

Hi ive replaced the incredibly heavy maxxis that where specced on my bike for some nobby nic s in 2.25 evo flavour a couple of weeks back and im wondering what others have in them.
Ive tried 30 in each for a few weeks then went for 40 in the back for a bit more speed etc. I didnt notice any less traction etc and the bikes a full sus so no noticeable difference in comfort.
Im using the bike weekly at llandegla on the the black and red runs at the mo so bit of a mix of mud rocks paths etc.
Only asking out of curiosity really as im a nosey fick and like altering things to see how they ll affect my ride if it all.

You really need to play with the pressures to suit you. I run 40/35 rear and down to 25 on the front depending on how it feels. I have found the front to be quite sketchy at higher pressures so you just need to find the right pressure for you.0
-
Nics are light for a reason and the reason is the sidewalls are only there to attach the tread to the wheel, they offer very little support at low pressures.
There is a sweet spot of 2 or 3 psi where they will grip and roll well without pinging or pinch flatting, you have to experiment. Snakeskins are much tougher, stable & pressure-tolerant but of course they're heavier/slower etc etc.0 -
Thanks for the replys i wouldnt say im heavy but if i was 6 inches taller than my 5 10 frame i think my 14st would blend in more :-)
ive been using them in the gloop lately so ill see how i get on when things dry up a bit.
blitz i know what you mean about how fragile they are etc if i go elsewhere more rocky ie the lakes i think ill chuck my maxxis mobster s back on for the day.The family that rides together stays together !

you sound much like myself, I run 35psi, its spot on for trail centers. when I first got mine last August I found they wanted to kill me on my local damp clay based trails if I was running any thing higher than 35psi0 -
ive found them fine leaning over probably up to about 30 degrees and thats been over the last month at llandegla so im hoping they run even better when it gets a bit dryer.
I suppose it depends on your weight , bike and how you ride but im pretty pleased with them at the mo, they ve knocked a pound and a half off my bike and generally feel easier to spin up to speed. The family that rides together stays together !

I generally get on quite well with mine. I run happily at 25psi with no problems, it's a double defense one if that is of any interest.
It doesn't like slippery wet tree roots (what does?), but other than that it's been pretty good...0 -
Is there no Manufacturers chart for weight, tyre & style of riding? I run 40psi on my last run and prob gonna drop to 35psi on Saturday.Canyon Nerve XC 7.0 Deep Black Ano - Silver, Rock Shox Reverb.0

I don't notice them letting go in corners... ridden 26" and currently got them on the 29er... in fact I found them pretty good when it gets sketchy, either that or I just don't crank the bike over that much.
I do run them a little on the soft side and tubeless though...not very robust if you are riding rocky trail centres as someone else said, i've pinched the sidewall before now, game over running tubeless.0 -
I run about 32 front 35 rear, seems to be a good compromise between rolling and grip, I weigh 80kgs0
-
I've gotta NN on the front and run it at about 25psi and I'm 73kg - the conditions were I am don't change much during the season and that pressure seems like a good balance for me.
I run a Racing Ralph on the back at about 35psi. The improvement with these tyres (at any pressure!) over my old tyres - Spesh Resolutions is ridiculous."Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

I am 70kg (plus kit) and ride a 25lb Stumpy FSR with a NN 2.25 front and 2.1 rear. I use the NN as my do-it-all tyre. hence the 2.1 rear for a little more cut through and bite in wet conditions. These have been used in the Lakes, Wales, Midlands, Peaks, etc. In rocky and trail centre conditions they are great, but on the Moors in boggy conditions the thin 2.1 can get a little stuck and spin, but I guess any tyre will and maybe a fat-floater tyre will struggle in other conditions.
I run a tubeless setup with some latex milk (Stans) and rim-tape on DT Swiss 420 rims. I run the tyres at 28-32 psi in the front and 35-40 psi in the rear. Have to say (and this will be fatal) that i have never had problems with either punctures or pinch flats. A couple of times I have felt the rim 'ding' opn the rear, but have never yet been failed by them on the trail.
When i first fitted the NN I thought it was quite slippery and had me questioning my wisdon in fitting them, so I gave them a couple of rides on simple, gravel tracks and roads and now they seem fine. I don;t know if there is some release-agent resident on the tyres after manufacturing that needs scrubbing off, but they are great now. is a great little tyre.
Just my opinions ;-)

Well tried the nics at 35 front and 40 rear today at llandegla, it was raining a bit so a bit muddy but i still managed a 1hr 26 time on the black long there so a happy bunny, they felt loads better on the hills and faster rolling so gonna stick those pressures. The nics are 2.25 evo versions. The family that rides together stays together !
