Hi, I'm looking to buy a properly waterproof jacket that doesn't cost ridiculous money. Can't afford Gore-tex.

Want something that is waterproof not just shower proof and packs small so can be carried easily.

Couple of likely candidates I've come across are:
Polaris Neutron Jacket - approx £80
DHB Signal Jacket - approx £60

Anyone have either of the above or can recommend something else?

I picked up a neutron for around 60 I think from CRC. It's no frills on the vents etc. but the jacket itself if great. Excellent fit, breathable and waterproof.

Try a Madison Telegraph jacket, price ranges from £65 -£80.

I bought mine 4 weeks ago, worn it each wknd and it's been great even when it has pi$$ed it down, really comfortable and breathable (no wet back). Fits well and looks good, a lad I know has had his for 2 years and it's still going strong.

    Big thumbs up! :D

I have a decathlon one (mtb specific), novadry (their brand of goretex), cost me £50. It's not incredibly breathable, but it's totally windproof/waterproof, really good buy. Pretty sure they still have them for the same price online.

I've got the original Signal - the one they recalled as the tapes came off the seams when you washed it. I never sent mine back for a refund as I really like it, and I'd have had to spend more to replace it... the Signal is cheap, simple, windproof, reasonably waterproof, and has discreet hi-viz, and mine is on its second winter of reliable service.

So I'd definitely consider buying a 'new' Signal if I need to replace mine. Meanwhile, some sealant, and the simple expedient of not washing it works fine... I just stand in the shower with my kit on after a muddy ride!

Thanks guys. There are so many jacket options so it's good to hear from some actual owners.

I'm not really after anything warm as such more a jacket that's truly waterproof & packable, hence why I thought the Polaris Neutron and DHB Signal sounded good.

You could try one of these if you can stretch to £100. Totally waterproof, very light and very breathable
