I've just purchased a 50mm stem as I want to go a bit shorter. Previous stem 65mm. I was also considering buying a wider bar. The bar I have now is 711mm. I am 5ft 9in would a 740/760 bar be too wide for me?

Depends how wide your shoulders are, and what type of riding you are doing...
I went from a 711mm to a 750mm and loved it, although I'm 6ft 6" and shoulders are that of 'Lurch' from the Adam's family!Ibis Mojo HD 2011 www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php? ... t=12842777

Riding is mainly natural singletrack ranging from fast flowing to steepish rocky technical tracks and throw in some trail centre riding also.----

I'd do it personally... whether you should or not is more based around your shoulders being too narrow and arms spread to wide... Why not try a cheaper bar in the wider size to start and sell it on if no good?
I got me some Easton Havocs in 750's if you want to try them. Maybe worth a trip to FoD tomorrow.Ibis Mojo HD 2011 www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php? ... t=12842777
