Here I have my brand new Giant Reign 2 2012. I rode it straight out of the shop, got home put some protective stickers on to prevent cable rub, made a chain stay protector out of an old inner tube then went straight up the hills. I have had this bike for three days and it has not failed to impress me one bit. I have been saving quite hard over the past 6 months to achieve the amount I needed for the bike. I have found a couple of bits on the bike that I would like to upgrade soon and that is the brakes. They are Elixir 1's and they just feel inconsistent and spongy and also the rear mech as I am not keen on the S-ram X7 that is on there as when you change gear it feels really rough. I am not sure if these little things are just as the bike is wearing in or whether it is something I should be concerned about.

also the rear mech as I am not keen on the S-ram X7 that is on there as when you change gear it feels really rough.

The X7 mechs are pretty good, it probably would benefit from a new shifter, X7 or 9 maybe?
Nice bike by the way, will there be any of the obligatory pimping?

Hi sorry for the late reply, at the moment I am finding the gear changes smoother than what it was to begin with, and yeah I have just purchased some new pedals (pictures will come shortly). But I will be doing some further upgrades once I have my Cannondale back up and running as that needs some new wheels and the brakes servicing
  • I have been riding my Giant over the past couple of weeks and I am over the moon with it. The only thing that has broke is the quick release clamp as it bent as I pushed it in, other than that there has been no faults.
I have been pushing my self on the trails as I am currently being beaten by my friend, who is riding a hard tail at the moment.
I have just bought some Superstar Nano Tech pedals and I have yet to ride them to see how they perform. :D

Please feel free to say what you think :)

I have a Reign, they are fantastic bikes, regarding your seatclamp you need to invest in a Reverb seatpost!! and pedals well I have them on both my bikes.

You may also find over time as your gonna be bombing down stuff, double and bash with a chain device.

Lovely bike and nice skills on the drop.

Thank you, and I am looking into the reverb as they do get really good reviews.

I got one to, Ive got myself a reverb on it (awesome!!) gone for a few mods to make it more comfy/suitable...gone for a shorter Kore stem 50mm and wider Kore Bars ...800mm!! but might chope them down a bit after a ride through my local woods.

Im really happy with my bike so far, just need to tweek the suspension .
  • Unfortunately I am going to have to fork out some money on some new brakes, as mine have been sent back on warranty twice now, I am really disappointed with them.

    What went wrong with them?
  • I have had Issues with the seals in the handles on the front brake, they got sent back after it's first free service, I was fine with that, but a couple weeks later the same thing started to happen again where you would just pull them and they were touching the bar, I had to make do with this for about a week as I had a race last weekend in Scotland, and it was an absolute nightmare

Pretty poor. I must say though i've never heard of it and i've had 2 pairs of elixirs trouble free for two years and my mates have had 3 pairs between them trouble free. It must be a new design fault, i know the Elixir 1 looks a bit different.

I just think it is really poor on a bike that is that expensive to put brakes on them that have caused so many problems,
I am currently looking at a pair of hope tech evo special edition, but I am not sure weather to get the X2's or the M4 :?

Could be your in for a shock, i know alot of people who have binned there hope's for excessive squeeling and unpredictble performace.

If your want relianble powerful brakes shimano or formula.. job done.

I have M4s on my reign running 203mm rotors both ends, they are good but expensive, if it was me I'd be getting shimano slx or saint.
