Giant Talon - Best Frame on Hardtail Bike under £800?

Re-reading the Review of the Giant Talon 0 in 2010's WMB Magazine, they say the Talon frame, if painted differently, wouldnt be mistaken for a £500 boutique frame.
Anyone recommend a better foundation for upgrading then a Giant Talon? I know the stock kit can be rubbish, such as Giant Root brakes (although now gone to Deore on some models), but frames look great to me?

My oldest Giant is 20 years young. The frame is the heart of your bike.. the rest wears out. Buy the bike with the best frame you can afford and feels suited to your style. If you can get a demo it would help as everyone has their own opinion. Ride the components to death and upgrade when you have the cash. Why tidy the house when you can clean your bike?0

I have a Cannondale Trail SL3 - frame is great IMO.
That said the spec isn't that good. If you enjoy frittering money away on aftermarket stuff rather than just getting a good deal in the first place (which obviously I love) then I can highly recommend this bike.
Although this probably applies to mountain biking in general.0 -
So many good frames available now. the Talon is pretty heavy though, though is intended for harder riding. The frame tubes are huge!0

Thanks for replies to date. Best wait around and see what turns up I guess.
I have noticed a fair few Talon lower models selling for <£200 on ebay, which I think is pretty cheap. Rockhoppers hold their value which is good as a seller.0 -
The lower end Talons had poor forks and parts mind. But as you say, good for upgrading if you want a tough bike.0
