Look nice.
What impresses me is the frame design is 8, yes, that's 8 years old now and still going strong. In fact, Cervelo have dropped 2 frames above this on in their line up (Soloist SLC and S3) yet still persist with this one. For 2012, why didn't they just use the S3 frame mould with lower/cheaper carbon? They could have but they didn't. They persisted the S2. Amazing...

wasn't the S2 an improved SLC though ? I know the critics of the Soloist and the SLC were that they were very harsh....S2 isn't by any means. The frame profile is very slightly different and they introduced internal cabling on the S2 ?....maybe wrong !0 -
I must say that I have just built up a new Cervelo S2 almost the same as eddie's as my race bike for this year. After 3 races I can say that turnerjohn is right, it is not harsh. Nice and stiff though through the bottom bracket but quite comfortable for a race bike. Only thing I can fault is that the head tube is not quite as stiff as my old Tarmac but that had a fully tapered head tube.
Looks great eddie. I love the Rotor cranks.0 -

Cervelo did drop two frames from their 2011 lineup, but it was the S1 and S3. The S1 sitting below the S2 in their range. My guess would be that they have changed the quality of the carbon on the S2 hence the £500 drop in price. If they did that with the S3 it would still be more expensive than the base model S5. And didn't the S2 come out at the same time as the S3, which would be in 2008. So it's 4 years old, not 8. I think the impressive bike in their range was the S1. Not sure when they brought it out, but Hamilton won Liege on a S1 and that was way back in 2003!

Pedantic hat back on for a sec: Soloist Carbon dates back to '05 see link to Julich's bike. Differences to 2012 are cabling, BB, rear dropouts, otherwise almost the same. Also, don't forget the Soloist Carbon SLC, the "black bike" on which Cancellara won his '07 stage while in yellow: http://www.cervelo.com/r/Cervelo%20A3%20Poster.pdf which was dropped when the S3 came out. And of course they dropped the S3 for 2012.
My point was they could've upgraded the S2 to the S3 mould which one must assume is "better" at the same price point, b/c the mould is already a sunk cost: they have 2 halves of CNC machined aluminium billet sitting in their factory per size. Whatever fibers they fill it with is Cervelo's perogative, they could use mud and straw to keep costs down but retain the S3 shape, however the engineers won out over the marketing guys on this one and they developed a new S2 mould instead. Go figure...When a cyclist has a disagreement with a car; it's not who's right, it's who's left.0 -
Is the 2012 S2 different from the 2011 model? And to be honest, I doubt the engineers or even the marketing people at Cervelo got their way, I willing to bet it was the accountants that won! They probably figured out there was more money left in the S2.
Anyway, I think it's a terrific frame for £1700, hope that the OP enjoys it!0 -
And of course, it's still being raced by pros! Pretty sure the AA Drink Leontien team are using it this year. So here is Lizzie Amritsead winning the Omloop van het Hageland on her S2...
