Hi,

Ive just been offered a Trek 1200 for £300 from my LBS. I think its the 2006 Trek 1200 ali frame with carbon forks, and a triple tiagra shimano 105 set. Its had a full service so is in really good running order. Question being will this be a good bike that will last, I dont want to buy something now then buy again in 6 months...anyone got any experience of this bike?

Also im planning on doing a 60 mile sportive in october....would this bike be suitable enough?

Short answer is yes - you're getting a good quality frame that should stand you in good stead for a few years yet and with the triple set up it will be ideal for tackling a few sportives. Is £300 the bottom line from your LBS? For a 5 year old bike, even with the service costed in, I would be tempted to try a lower offer.

As a bit of encouragement you could at some point consider a few upgrades as described in the attached thread:-

The resulting bike looks really good and the poster seems to have found a bit of a treasure.

    +1

An excellent bike - mine is 6 years old and it has been excellent in that time.

I recently sold a Trek 1200 in excellent condition for 275.It was a great bike in the 3 years I had it.

I did the Chilterns sportive on it though on such a hilly route mine with a traditional 53/39 double was hard work but comfort wise was fine and more than kept up with the expensive bikes.
