Exploding Tubeless Tyres

Just scared the shit out of myself

Got new No Tubes Crest rims with Maxxis 2.1 Aspen on it. Fitted last weekend without to much issues and they appeared to be all sealed. Haven't used them since fitting and found that it has lost pressure over the week. Brought the tyre inside the house (bad idea loking back at this) and added some air. Put the tyre down after shaking it spread sealent around the inside like the notubes videos and put the wheel down

Almighty bang and the tye completly blew off the rim and sealent is spread far and wide.

So what gives? Did I simply use to much pressure (Around 40Psi I thought but gauge may not be accurate) or is the tyre a bit to loose? It is brand new and still looks undamaged. Thoughts?

Try again - use more pressure until you are sure it is seated properly then let some out.

    My personal solution is tubes.

Be bloody careful of that though. If it blew off the rim at 40psi with no intervention I sincerely doubt it'll respond well to 60psi.

You'll be lucky if the tyre's ok too. I destroyed a Racing Ralph when it blew off my Podiums a few weeks ago, similar circumstances.

Pretty sure it was seated all the way around correctly. Guess I'll have another go..The tyre looks fine and no visible damage. It's brand new and not even ridden yet. Wonder if it was really 40 psi and not closer to 60. The Crest rims to say 45 PSi max for a 2.0 tyre.

Yeah probably will look fine, until you put it on and it has a massive 'wobble' in the carcass where the bead is now distorted. If it's brand new I'd send it back. I'd do it with less air, not more. Go to 20psi and seat it by hand, it'll 'snap' into position, then increase carefully.

Well. Back on and pumped up to 30psi. It pinged on at about 20si or so. Tyre looks straight. I guess the only question is will it happen again. Will ride and see what pressure is like but would be nice to know it won't pop off again.

Probably when you are cranked over into a corner.*

*this is just a possibility and not what I actually want to happen to you.
