Steerer length question

Hi guys I wonder if you could share some knowledge. I've been looking at getting some new front suspension, as mine is leaking, and looking on eBay at some of the prices, to compare against brand new. Now alot of the forks say that the steerer is 170mm or 180mm. I've measured my current forks and they have a 230mm steerer.
Now I know that there is 3cm of spacers on the bike at the moment, but I think without them even a 200 mm fork would fit only at a push. Are the headsets on the giant bikes bigger than others??
Also there is a curved piece between the headset an the crown fork, which may or may not be another spacer.

The lower bit sounds like the headset.
See the topic in the FAQs on how to measure the steerer length while still fitted to the bike.
Steerer lengths vary from make to model to frame size.
Not to mention headset type."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

You may be able to get a headset with a lower stack height, or stem, but depends on the headset.
But I'd get at least 200mm to be on the safe side.0 -
Actually it looks like its above the headset

internal/zero stack headset, that is just a spacer."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
