Im trying to decide weather to get conventional or top swing for my new slx front mech.

I was wondering if there are any advantages/disadvantages between the two positions or is it just a case of personal preference?

it depends on what will fit your frame.

I found that both types fitted my frame. I prefer the top swing one as I find that less mud gets stuck around the bb area with it

I find conventional picks up less mud than top swing as you don't have the big flat section on top, plus conventional tend to weigh a bit less, my bottom pull only LX comes in at just 134g.
