I brought a pair of Mavic Ksyrium SLR last summer, I must say its the best all round wheelset I've ever purchased. The Mavic tyres were excellent, grippy and even in the wet. The bad thing I experienced was the durability of the trye was really bad. Surrey Hills, nick after nick and because these clinchers use the special Mavic tubless tyres without inner tubes, if the cut goes through you need a patch. Not ideal!

Anyway, my winter bike is about to be swapped with my summer bike! Anyone know if you can use inner tubes with these wheels, I gather so, thought I should check with you people. Going to use Vittoria Pave.................Mavic tyres are good, but I don't fancy changing flats all the time with patches!

You had any issues with the Exalith coating as yet, or have the rims been fine?

Which tyres have you got on there? I have the Cosmic SLE's (yet to be ridden) and they came with the Yksion Griplink/Powerlink set which DO have inner tubes. You could swap to them but it sounds like you're not happy with the durability anyway so maybe need to be looking at something more resilient like Conti GP4000s or Michelin Krylion/Pro4 Endurance?

I am too interested in your thoughts on the Exalith brake surface though? Any issues?

the Exalith rims are incredible, I've had no problems, they are the best rims for sure I've had. They hold well up to heat as well, I plummeted down a lot of Swiss mountains over summer, some very steep the braking was incredibly good, the only thing I noticed was mavic pads wear quickly, being through 1 set so far, 2nd set seems to last a bit longer.

But as I said GripLink / PowerLink tyre system seems not durable, the kevlar belt is poor. I've swapped my Vittoria Paves over today which I hope to use for another month until warmer weather kicks off. Whether I use my Vittoria Open Corss CX or Mavic is a debate. Racing fine, but I don't to be stuck in the "sticks" with problems.

I have Mavic R-Sys SLR tubs on my Tarmac. I really, really like them.

Bought them last August for the Mendip rides. Up and down. Was running 2010 Zipp 303 but the lack of braking in the wet put the fear up me. So tried this and fell in love. Stiff, light and fast and great pick up and power. But the braking is incredible. The much lamented squeal is actually nowhere near as bad as others have said and not bothersome at all. The best stopping wheelset I have ever used, including Dura Ace clinchers. Tread wise, my front has not got a single mark or cut on it despite riding them through winter. The rear was sliced open on pave however and in a needs must to get them sorted asap I stuck a corsa on the back. I will put a Mavic back on as and when and may even put them on my deep section wheels as really impressed as the Conti gp4000s are good, but are not as nice as either the Mavic or corsas, but they hold up well on rubbish roads.

They are IMO the best looking wheels out there :)

That they are actually good is a bonus!

Yeah - I really like the deeper section too, but they only make them as a Clincher. They are the super looking wheels. Never say never eh ?!?!?
