Seting up manitou with SPV

Finally got around to getting another shock pump with guage after the lasy one broke, so far I've been tweaking the Manitou Skareb forks using a guageless which isn't ideal.
Ignoring rebound, how would people advise I set up the forks, base air first for sag plus the minium air from manual in SPV but then what to adjust next, the SPV progression, SPV air or base air?
When I first set them up by the book (pump broke just after) they dived far to much, so will be running them a bit stiffer.
