speeding ticket

On holiday in Australia and saw this on local news.A guy went through a
hand held speed gun in a 40kph zone and was clocked at 56kph.He was
hit with a $100 fine (£60). Isn't not having a speedo a good defence in
court and is a case like this worth arguing?

Heh heh. Bit like saying "I don't know who's fault the accident was because I wasn't looking"."I didn't realise you were trying to stop me, I was texting at the time..."

Cyclist road rules and safety, Government of South Australia says:Cyclists must obey all the road rules, just like motorists. This means obeying stop signs and traffic lights, riding on the left side of the road and giving way to pedestrians on crossings. Cyclists have the same rights and responsibilities as any other road user.
Cycling and the Law Booklet, Government of South Australia says:SPEED LIMITS: Bicycle riders must obey the same speed limits as drivers of motor vehicles.
A car has to have a speedo, but it doesn't have to be calibrated as accurate, but you can still get booked for speeding. Claiming in court "sorry your honour, my speedo was way out, I didn't mean to do 45 in a 30" won't get you off, even if it was true.Summer - Canyon Ultimate CF SLX 9.0 Team

I must be missing the point here.how can you obey a speed limit if you
don't know how fast you are going.a cycle speedo isn't a legal requirement.0 -
The onus is on you to obey the speed limit. Having a speedo helps. Not having one is no excuse.Insta: ATEnduranceCoaching

Also in Australia , if you want to become a cycle courier , you need to give a $500 bond , and have a reg plate on your bike . Red light 3 times you are banned from being a courier and lose the $500 . I used to be a courier , i would say bloody harsh , but also fair . (-: cheersBritannia waives the rules0

There's no offence for speeding on a bike in the uk. There are other offences that may be considered though. However where there is an offence of speeding (as in Aus) not knowing is no defence.Insta: ATEnduranceCoaching

i would have blamed it on shiny Lycra super-reflecting the radar/laser back.0

the mot rules are changing here to include the speedo calibration on the mot. so if its inaccurate you have an unroadworthy car.0

Does the offence of 'furious riding' still apply? I so want to be charged with it if it does.Norfolk, who nicked all the hills?

Does it matter if your in a 30 mph limit against national speen limit? Does that make sense? Is there no speeding offence at all for cyclists?0 -
No, it's the manner of riding and with regard to speed, is it appropriate for the circumstance? Measured speed may assist in a prosecution of wanton/furious bit OT would only make up part, supported by aggravating circumstances.Insta: ATEnduranceCoaching

There are speed limits that apply to bikes in the UK - the Royal Parks have them being the one that is very relevant to cyclists - and I think there's a byelaw on some Scottish cycle paths do. Regular roads don't certainly.
Motor cars in the UK don't have to even have a speedometer (if they're old enough), let alone a correctly calibrated and working one.Jibbering Sports Stuff: http://jibbering.com/sports/0 -
if you are braking the speed limit on the flat, im guessing you'd be pushing it quite hard. going down a hill though...you could do that quite easily. i'd say doing it on the flat would at least "look" furious.....i happen to be able to look quite relaxed and aloof while flying down a hill. certainly not furious. clearly i am exempt from this law.0

Nothing to do with any of the above; but quite amusing regarding `speeding!`:0

Unfortunately, I suspect that is bullsh*t. The sidewinder is a heat seeking air to air missile, not a lazer guider air to ground missile, I'd be amazed if the RAF responded as was quoted.
