Just got some new Zipp wheels (my first carbon rims). They recommend their own cork pads, but best I can find thenm is £40 for a set of 4.
Surely everyone isnt spending that sort of money for brake pads?
Is it worth it? What do you use?

If you run a pair of £2K plus wheels you have to pay for the pads too...If you run non approved pads you can cook the carbon fibre braking on a long descent and void the warranty. I don't know about Zipp's warranty specifically but is it worth risking it for forty quid?Strada Hand Built Wheels

Could you explain to me the concept of 'cooking' a thermoset composite?Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0 -

Half the price of the Zipp pads and work fine with my 303's. Be gentle putting them into the pad holders though

I use the zipp corks pads on carbon wheels, they really are very good indeed. The one part of my bike I will never skimp on are brakes/tyres.0

I used these for a Corima front wheel on my TT bike. work great so far

Strada's probably right, warranty n'all. £40 it is this time.0

I already posted a better option for half the price but it's your money

Cork pads are always safe because they are completely nonabrasive and do not generate heat due to their low coefficient of friction (they also don't stop so great, but that is the tradeoff). The Zipp pad contains highly thermally conductive carbon fibers to make is function as a heat sink and transfer heat into the brake caliper.0
