BB30 Conversion

Having recently purchased a new carbon frame (a Focus Raven) I am left with a dilemma.
The frame has a BB30 bottom bracket and I've been running a 'standard' sized Race Face NEXT SL chainset on my current frame. Obviously I'd like to keep this chainset (and can't afford another one in BB30 guise) so need to convert the BB shell on the new frame. There seems to be a number of options from Race Face, KCNC, Wheels Manufacturing (Adaptors) and FSA (an alloy 'sleeve' which is pressed into the BB shell to accommodate 24mm axles).

I'm leaning towards the FSA pressfit sleeve as it'll allow me to run my relatively new Hope BB and change/space it appropriately but I have a feeling that once the sleeve is pressed into the BB30 shell, it won't be an easy job to take out and, like most things surrounding the BB shell, it'll probably creak!

Has anyone tried any of these options and what results have you had?

Thanks in advance.

Not press fit so can be installed with a HT2 spanner.
  • I'm a big fan or KCNC and use quite a bit of their stuff. However, I've used their normal threaded BB's in the past and it wasn't great. I couldn't get the spacing correct between the BB shell and the cups and if I so much as looked at the plastic caps on the outermost part of the bearings, they broke. I might give them another try in the hope that they've improved but will look at other options first.

You could go with the sram BB convertion which is an alloy sleave that is pressed and bonded into the BB30 shell and is threaded to accept normal external cups, or you can fit the BB30 bearings into your new frame and get the wheels mfg adaptors that reduce the 30mm id of the BB30 bearings to take your raceface 24mm axle.
  • This any use?
