Almost 2 years since I've been on, but time for a tech query -

Is XT more durable than LX or are you just paying for less weight?

Just seen top bargain online for XT component (£30 cheaper than the LX version!) never bought one in my life cos of cost, but I don't upgrade my stuff very often for same reason, so I don't want to buy the XT and then discover I have to replace it soon anyway cos it's worn out ....
I plan to live forever ... so far, so good

    They offer better shifting, although for many the differences are hardly noticable, and less weight. They will be just as durable as an LX.

    I think it depends what you are upgrading, the XT crankset, chain rings are slightly less durable than chocolate for example. But they are supper smooth.

    LX is out dated now, it's turned into touring version. SLX is the comparable old LX.

    My XT 770 rings have lasted very well. Suppose it is how you look after your whole drive train and change chains.

    XT is more durable than lx. By that; I mean it works like new, for longer... SLX chainsets are great though, but for the rest of the drivetrain, definately xt. This is assuming you maintain it.
