Best budget work stand.

I could do with a work stand but I am pretty shocked to how much these cost. Essentially they are a few tubes & a clamp. These should not be as expensive as they are, a little like the bike specific pump up pressure washer being a glorified weed sprayer. 10 quid versus 100 for same product. I am looking for alternative ideas like with the weed sprayer that keeps my cost down. Dont really want to spend over 50 quid with a tray. Some may see me as being tight but its alot if a stand thats no engineering acomplishment. I would rather spend the difference on my bike!!!

Rosebikes do one with a tray for about £40-50. It's the same model that's sold under various brands for more.
Edit: This is the one http://www.rosebikes.co.uk/article/xtreme-assembly-stand-s-1300---our-bestseller--/aid:22588 Price seems to have gone up a bit, but they get good reviews.0 -
there are 2 on ribble cycles... one is a alu fold away one (best if you don't have the space to keep it up all the time). One is steel (best if you have space to keep it up all the time). both about £58. I have the alu one that has no problems holding the 32lb bike at all angles. mate has the steel one with similar weights being put on it and does the same, but feels a tab 'sturdier'.0

Depends what you want it for... I bought a Topeak Flash stand a couple of months ago, perfect for a few adjustments. Obviously not as sturdy or versatile as a proper workstand though but useful nonetheless.

great until you want to run new gear cables (if they run under the downtube like a lot do, I this isn't a problem for you at present) change the BB, remove the forks etc0

Nice wooden one
The Rose one is perfect but a little to much once you have factored in shipping..
The rigid boss one on ribble is the same as the Rose one but onlt 53.00. May be worth considering if can not get just as good cheaper!!Canyon Nerve XC 7.0 Deep Black Ano - Silver, Rock Shox Reverb.0 -
Wait until Lidl have those bargain workstands for £30. Not sure when they'll be available again, but I got one last year and it does the job0

I've got the same one as sold by rose, Bought it from decathlon for ~£40 so if you have a store near you go check it out.0

I was going to mention lidl and aldi ones for thirty quid but they only seem to stock them every few monthsPapa? Nicole0

Never really needed a stand until the other day, when I came to change the pads on my bike for the first time.
I had to improvise!
The top step was a perfect fit between drop outs and bottom bracket.
It worked ok for this task, but think I'll need to buy one sometime.0 -
+1 for Decathlon (Rose) one.
Had it about 2 years now. No probs.Cotic Soul 26 inch. Whyte T1300 -

Love it ha! Almost as good as the wooden one. At the moment I am reduced to hanging it on a car cycle carrier and is not that stable for spanner work.Canyon Nerve XC 7.0 Deep Black Ano - Silver, Rock Shox Reverb.0 -
i have the ally folding one from ribble, got it in one of there sales for about £45. does the job well enough and pretty stable even when the bike is high up. does get a little bt wobbly if your trying to crank hard in a higher gear but im sure most stands would!
if you want the one from rose if you go on facebook and like them you get a £10 off voucher0 -
I am sorry if I talk to much s@#t it goes with the name.............0

Crikey... I haven't seen that thing in like... a year! It's become wheel chocks for when I'm working under the car, and nibbly things for the rabbits to chew on. I got myself a £60 standfrom ebay which is the best £60 I've ever spent (obviously, I spent a bit too much though. Nuts). Seriously, don't bother with a wooden one. If there's one mantra that I would pass on, it's 'too is often confused with to'. No, that's not it, it's 'A bike is only as good as the tool that maintains it'. Yes, it's a double meaning.0

A couple of weeks back I needed to adjust my front mech. After a couple of minutes head scratching I threaded a ratchet strap through the brace on the back of my (open) garage door, hooked to the saddle rails and rear wheel suspended off the floor. Worked perfectly for that job.0

I had an email recently about this - haven't go it though but looks ok.

looks clever if you have the parts lying around. But to buy it all from scratch would prob cost as much as one of the Aldi / Lidl / ebay stands?0 -

Got a text from my mate yesterday "are you any good with gears?" so I went round with ma toolbox and had to improvise for a stand, 2 garden patio chairs facing apart and a short plank of wood on top, put the plank through the frame and done!Bird Aeris. DMR Trailstar. Spesh Rockhopper pub bike.0

i just built one out of wood for £10 lol after going to bnq and every where i could think of couldn't source the stuff needed at a cheap enough price so made a wall bracket with a long arm coming out with a fork on the end and just rest my seat in the tie up with a bungee stop it coming out n going to start my rebuild today . will get up a pic too
