Shimano M-775 Hub Service

I'm attempting to service my M-775 rear hub. There seems to be slight play in the axle. Is that likely to be caused by worn bearings? It seems to be tight, yet still play.
Am trying to use this as a guide....

I've stripped the wheel right down and much to my annoyance the bloody cone spanner that I have is too fat!! So got to get another.
In the meanwhile - Couple of questions.....
1 - will I be able to get at the bearings with just the use of a 17mm cone spanner and an allen key? Or am I oversimplifying? It seems to be that you place the allen key in the axle and counter turn the cone spanner. Is that it?
2 - Any other tips or advice as to how to complete this task?
Thanks :?

and should I use loose bearings, or are caged bearings ok? Loose in at the moment, but would these work?

cheers Cooldad. Will order some.
anyone able to help with my first question?0 -
Yes you only need cone spanner and allen key, not saying cooldad is wrong but i was sure the last 775 rear hub i serviced had 3/16 bearings in it, one side was caged and the other side loose, ultimatley you'll find out the size when you open it.0

Yep, some Shimano hubs use the smaller 3/16, the 775 being one of them. They must be run loose.0

thanks everyone.....3/16 bearings purchased. Stripped, cleaned, greased and put back together. All good.
Except for managing to strip the thread on the centrelock rotor mount. What a bellend. :x0
