Which 2012 MTB Hardtail for £1000

Hi All,
I'm not what you would call knowlegable as far as bike gear is concerned so I wouldn't know where to start when assessing forks & gears, etc. I currently have a 2010 Specialized Rockhopper Expert and am thinking of passing that on and getting myself a new 2012 bike.
I've been through this bikeradar article on best MTB under £1000 but it's a year out of date and was wondering what the current 'top 3' 2012 bikes would be for that money?
