Hi all,

Was chatting with a few folk about either a Trek remedy or Cube Fritzz and was somewhat undecided. I have come across the new Yeti SB-66 and wanted to get a few opinons of what this bike is like in relation to the Trek and Cube?

Any views/reviews on this bike would be appreciated thanks for the help.

Ben

It is one to test, the only way with a bike of this price (or any price really!). There is no doubt it is a heavy frame for the intended use/travel at 7.5lbs. And don't get sucked into all this 'switch' and 'inflection point' talk, is pure hype, many short twin link frames (which this is - a 4 bar, but uses an 'eccentric' pivot) do the same.

The proof is in the pudding, go test!

It's the latest shiny thing so lots of people who have never ridden one will tell you it's the greatest bike ever.
Personally I would go for the Cube, good value bike & it rides better than the Remedy.

I rode the SB66 and found it to be ok, but nothing that special. I didnt like the way it seemed to get stuck in the mid stroke, so it didnt feel that plush. It does however climb like a hardtail. I also think its too heavy. If it were my money, I would go for a carbine at not much more. That said, you'll probably want a chain device etc, so the remedy would be my choice of the options you list.

Seems the supply problems are not as bad as they were as I've actually seen frames in stock - though I couldn't get a demo bike to try in my size for love nor money when I was interested last autumn.

Stevo 66:There's been one at Swinnertons at Cannock Chase for ages, in fact it's been there so long they've reduced because they obviously can't sell the thing!

the sb66 is a nice bike, yet to ride it, but on paper the geometry and characteristics look spot on, bit weighty and expensive though, something like a blur LT or a Mojo HD would a good bet

'Good' geo is not good enough to warrant such a price tag, especially as with something so subjective (and bad geo doesn't cost any less ;-)). The sus is a 4 bar variation that may well work very well for some, but seems to say other manufactuers such as the DW link are telling porkies.

One thing we can say is that it is damned heavy. I'd like to test one, but as a buyer I would not even shortlist it for test.

varying differences between four bars though, I have never liked horst link style bikes, stumpy's, zesty's etc, but I've found I get on very well with the likes of dw link, vpp and quad link, as ever its all subjective to what you prefer.

you very much pay for the name with the yeti, despite the 575 and asr5 imo being some of the best value frames out there for a "boutique" brand. I'd love to have a go on one, especially the carbon sb66, seems right up my street, but it is very expensive compared to the carbine, mach 5.7 and the HD, all of which seem very good value compared to the yeti and santa cruz carbon bikes...

in all honesty my money would be a whyte 146 or as I did a Mojo HD, can't go wrong either way, possibly the whyte would be better due to its geometry and iscg tabs, massive oversight on the HD as it doesn't have a mount for a guide.

Thanks Bails, didn't take long to go from waiting lists to discounts! I got sick of waiting and picked up a Spicy last October. Now approaching storage capacity for bikes so no more toys for now :-)
