Hi all
What do MTB guides generaly charge per day????
Been riding for 20 + years and completed my SMBLA recently and thought I might try some guided tours round my area?? concentrating on weekends only at first offering guided rides and accomodation. Plenty of trail centres and wild XC around me. If their's interest then might try to make a business out of it. Not sure how the UK rider market would take to this, but their are plenty of overseas riders tootling around the area and asking for directions/advice.

What would you expect to pay for a guided weekend??
What would you expect to pay a guide for a days riding??
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Not much help I know, but I wouldn't.
Might be worth posting on a travel website aimed at visitors to the UK. A Lonely Planet type one for rougher travel.

If you want to make a business out of it, I'd suggest (as Cooldad does) going for the travel based market and offering a complete riding/accommodation package i.e. a week long tour with different itinerary each day, so visiting different trail centres, local rides each day.

As for the UK based market, the skill/development market seems pretty good - if you can offer good instruction packages they might get a lot of interest. There's a few on here that do this, in particular Jedi who I think is booked up til April at the moment, so there is definitely a market for it.

Other than that, you could try hooking up with any bike shops at or near trail centres. You might be able to come to some arrangement whereby you run guided rides from their shop, in return for a cut of the profit.

  • Ghost. Galloway cycling already cater for the package holiday. I was tempted to hook up with him as a guide but I was not really in a position to do so at the time. Give him a call if you have something to offer.

Speak to Sam at Kirroughtree although she already works with Ruth/bottlegreen.
Not sure if Mark Wilcox @ Nextlevel bikes in CD is still offering tuition, more dh orientated when he did.
    CD cycles?
Dalbeattie, MPG cycles. I know there are quite a few TCLS in the area but not aware of anyone doing guiding/tuition.
Mabie is Clive Forths base when he is in town. Lots of others like Dirtschool, Cylewise etc use it
Ae. The shop closes this weekend :!:
Rik offers guided rides and uplifts to Wanlockhead from Drumlanrig+tuition.

Btw where do you go for your wild Xcode riding? Needing some inspiration to get out ATM and some new trails would do the trick :D Working on one which could be done from Ae
  • Thanks for the reply's didn't think the UK market was great but the tuition part seems interesting. Anyone know of companies that offer tutor training??
Anyone know what guides charge for a days guiding?
  • CTC looks good.
Cyclewise @ Whinlatter offer a good set up for us in SW Scotland. They have/are working with BC to deliver a coherent and regulated " industry" standard IMO ....

Guiding looks like £50-80. Skills = £150+per person.
