My first road bike is due to arrive Wednesday and im after some general newbie advice. What general maintenance should I be doing an a weekly basis to keep everything as new. I'm really unsure of the mechanical side if things but don't mind but willing to learn and buy the right sprays/lube I need. I plan on dry rides only, unless the weather turns while I'm out. Also on my mtb I maintain around a 15mph average speed for cycles Upto 20 mile. What can I expect from my new road bike?

Cleaning bike (baby wipes ) I then use wax furniture polish on the frame
Wiping down/re-lube chain
Check tyres for pressure/damage
I also check the bolts on my seat post and handlebars regularly.
As for ave speed, how longs a piece of string? Obviously should be higher, but are you comparing same terrain?
Enjoy your new bike."There's a shortage of perfect breasts in this world, t'would be a pity to damage yours."0 -

If thats on road with smooth mtb tyres then expect about 20mph (+5) but if you are maintaining 15mph off road, you could be riding +7-10mph faster on road for the same watts I would say0 -

If he's worn those baggy shorts mtb'ers wear as well in the past and now switches to lycra perhaps that could add another 2mph on top. What we up to now for this guy 27mph average? Sounds about right for a newbie.0 -

damn it i was expecting at least a 30mph average!!!!!!
no seriously though, my tyres on my mtb are semi slick tyres and the ride was just a couple of a roads and a few country lanes, few hills and a few descents. the bikes come this evening and im dying to get out on it. its scary how thin the tyres seem to my mtb!!!!0 -
I see about 2mph maybe 3mph difference (on a commute) in the real world between my light full slick hardtail MTB and a full carbon roadbike on 23mm tyres. so be realistic and dont be disheartened - let the speed come to you!!!My bikes
