External bearings
Hello,
I woild like to convert my crankset from Shimano Octalink to an external bottom bracket style. Do I have to use a specilal tool to strip the paint back to make the bottom bracket true where the bearings would tighten up against?
Hope this makes sence!

Got a crankset that is really worn, think im just going to replace the chain rings now as LBS reccons he would charge £40 to face the bb shell.0

I went from Octalink to external, didn't face the frame as was told it wasn't really necessary. Experienced no problems since.0

That's very steep, it's a 10 minutes job... If the equipment wasn't so bloody expensive it would be another DIY jobleft the forum March 20230
