I will be relocating from the North East to St. Albans at the end of March and would like to continue my cycle commuting. Has anyone any experience of cycling from St. Albans to Borehamwood/Elstree? Any thoughts on what the best route would be? I don't mind a less direct route if it keeps me off busy traffic roads.

Straight North through Shenley is probably the best and the quietest although there's not much in the way of a quiet route anywhere near St Albans!
MTB or Road - They are both good!

It depends on which side of St Albans you are and whether you are going to Elstree or Borehamwood. Being on the SW side I use the A5183 through Radlett and I have to say that the drivers on the stretch to Elstree are quite considerate.
