Voodoo Limba anyone

OK, it's a cross bike rather than a road bike but it seems to fit better in here than in mtb... I know NOWT about road bikes and cross bikes, my commuter is a 20-year-old steel rigid mtb. So any advice appreciated!
One of the local Halfordses has found a Limba up the back of the warehouse, and is flogging it for £400. I can't find much online about it but it's pretty tidy- scandium-and-carbon frame, Truvativ elita double chainset, 105 shifting, carbon fork, Avid shorty 4 brakes cantis (I did swear I'll never buy another set of cantis but I'd like to think they've improved since 1991). Didn't get full wheel details, think they were mavic opensports, other finishing kit was Raceface Cadence I think.
So it seems like a pretty nice bit of kit... Anyone got any experience? I'd be using it as a commuter (road and dirt paths), but with some off road and who knows, maybe a CX race or two.

I had one for 6 months (got it second hand), sold it as it was too big for me.
It was quite a smooth ride but the brakes where shocking in the wet, even after changing the pads to coolstops.
If you are thinking about commuting personally i wouldn't, no brakes in he wet, no full guard mounts and no rack mounts
Having said that £400 is a great price!0 -
Cheers! It does seem like an outrageous price tbh! Rackmounts aren't an issue, I don't use racks but mudguards isn't so good, I hadn't noticed that it lacks mounts. Wonder if it'd take a set of raceblades or roadracers.
Hmm. I'm slightly concerned about the size but still really tempted, not sure I can go too far wrong at this price.Uncompromising extremist0 -
£400 is a bargain, but its no good if its the wrong size for you, even at that price.1998 Kona Cindercone in singlespeed commute spec

Oh yeah, obviously. But if it does turn out to be the wrong size- bearing in mind I've never had a road bike or cross bike before, hard to say by shop sitting- then it's not going to be a disasterUncompromising extremist0

Very good price I think - can't see why a set of Cruds wouldn't fit, there will be plenty clearance. Might even be a little 'too much' clearance ideally for these as the spray will get aroudn them if they aren't close to the tyre ? MAybe that's nonsense on my part but at £400 it's a steal if it fits.0

If it helps, Crud IIs do NOT fit tyres much wider than 25mm. They defo don't fit my 32c Schwable Marathons, they rub on all 3 sides.
It's a CX bike with TONS of clearance afterall, so heck, go for full on mudguards! When a cyclist has a disagreement with a car; it's not who's right, it's who's left.0 -
Cheers for that... I've put down a deposit on it, should be picking it up tomorrow so I'll see what I've got to work with.Uncompromising extremist0

BTW in case anyone else is looking at one of these- supposedly all remaining stock is on shopfloors now at £400 in various Halfords stores- they do have mudguard mounts, just no top rackmounts.
Liking it so far... 105 shifters feel weird, I can't shift up on the front without applying the brakes  Halfords and Voodoo guys have done a lovely job of setup I have to say, all feels spot on. I just need to set up my own brain though, having some toe overlap issues as it's fairly short.
But it feels rapid, and well put together. Really looking forward to seeing what it can do on and off road.Uncompromising extremist0
