Lacking anything windproof apart from my boil in a bag waterproof! Base layer and summer jersey isn't particularly comfortable but you get by with some MTFU.

Mavic Eschappe looks pretty sweet, sure I can find a way to justify the cost, somehow..kidney anyone? anything out there as stylish and practical?

Looks warm to me. For windproofiness I use a gillet with a mesh back.

+1 for a gilet. For most days I prefer it to a full wind-proof jacket as it keeps my core warm without flapping around.

Hmmmmm point, might be a bit warm, maybe next winter, shall snoop around some gilet!

I use a montane featherlight velo

Not waterproof, but very windproof, drys very quickly and packs down to the size of an orange, and is more breathable than something like windstopper.

  • I use windproof as waterproof so all of my winter stuff tends to be windproof. I have a gilet but hardly ever use it - either use a SS jersey over a LS top or a SS base layer under a jacket.

Even with the 15 euro shipping to UK you'll end up at less than a 100 quid. They're reliable aswell, bought my bike there and just recently the Bontrager softshell they have on offer.

Mavic stuff is quality, my fav brand at the moment

Mate of mine bought that Mavic top from this website recently. Took about a week to arrive, but so much cheaper than buying in the UK.

Awesome, with the help of Google Translate I managed to place my order last night, hopefully be as good as it looks online.
  • I bought my Ultegra Di2 from Germany (http://www.bike-discount.de) and saved £200 at least. Shipping was only 4 Euro and it was with me within a week. I've had tyres (Ice Spiker Pro) from Germany too. It's worth a look for some of the more significant purchases.

Have to say excellent efficiency [whoda thunk it?] from the German stores, ordered Monday arrived Wednesday! That's wiggle quick.

As for the garment, seems pretty thick but only worn over my work shirt, has to be better than boil in a bag and base layer option but it would be raining today though wouldn't it.

Perfect for a windproof jacket. I never wear waterproof layers for riding only windproof.

This is where I disagree with you.

I have never found a waterproof jacket that is sufficiently breathable and cool.

I use an eVent jacket and it is OK, but even that (equivalent to, and possibly more breathable than the most breathable goretex) is nowhere near as good as a thin pertex windproof that is effectively windproof, not waterproof - it drys very quickly and is shower resistant though.

Waterproof and breathable do not exist. I have a 'flash' Gore Path II that is superb but also horrible in this weather [5-12 degrees] hence the hunt for windproof.

First ride with the Eschappe today and whilst I got a little warm to start I opened up the sleeve vents and pocket and was very comfy, superb.
