I'm toying with the idea of getting a new bike as my current Rockrider is looking a bit worn (although it's working well). It has served me well, and if there is nothing else out there I might just keep it.

What kind of bikes are out there around that price that are any good? I'm quite happy with V brakes too. The new Vulcan looks more expensive although better spec'd and the new 5.2 Rockrider looks different to my older model (the previous one) and appears heavier but is it still about the best entry level at this price or thereabouts?

What is your budget, and in what way is the 5.2 worn? A few replacement parts might be more cost effective.
  • To be honest it's fine, just scratched, handlebar grips worn etc. It's purely cosmetic. I just have a little bit of money coming my way (approx £300 but closer to £250) which would be my budget, and might be tempted with a new shiny toy.

I'm obviously not after anything world beating just the best I can get for the money. I'm also interested to see if the new 5.2 is any better/same/worse than my current one.
  • i just bought a new rockrider 5.2. its really good, light, feels sturdy and rides great....didnt come with disk brakes but it has the spaces on the frame and forks for them...

I'd spend some of the money on a good fork - something liek this:

Will make a big difference with the hydraulic damping. A £250 bike could be worse than what you have lol. Tehn maybe some lighter pedals and parts.
  • I think you need some new bling, that's all. No point wasting that £300 for something newer but worst.

Buy yourself some new top quality grips, bar ends, wheel caps, pedals etc.

    Make your bike your own.

Either that or save the cash and get an 8.1 next year... or do both!
