Go Pro Owners, so advice please!
"I need a hero, I'm holding out for a her......."
yep i finally put my hand in my pocket and got myself a Hero 2
now, to all those using go pros, what resolution have you found is best for filming mountain biking?
I know there a file size considerations but I'm a bit baffled by the shear choice of
WVGA - 60 fps
WVGA - 120 fps (slo motion)
720 - 30 fps
720 - 60 fps
960 - 30 fps
960 - 48 fps
1080 - 30fps
I'm thinking of just sticking with the 30fps for everything unless i am doing slow motion stuff, but does filing in 60fps make it smoother at faster speeds?
cheers

does your editing software support 60fps ?
if so use that you will get smother crisper footage.. especially faster stuff like downhill...
30fps will be fine for 99.9% of the stuff..
if you look at any of my vids (see sig) i always film at 30 fps.. i guess this is mostly because my software wont support 60fps though.. i would like to try 60fps to get a comparison though..www.bearbackbiking.com

I'll do a comparison today of I get chance, I use final cut pro x which handles 60fps
There is a way to get iMovie to handle it but it means converting to single frames and importing as an image sequence and setting them to play at the correct speed. I'll speak with my sister who edits and get her How To file, useful.
I would have asked her about the gopro but she has never done any action stuff.
Slow motion stuff is pretty mint from a few tests I've done.0 -
you lucky you got fc pro i only got finalcut express 4 to see if i would take to it. i have been after getting studio 7 but being an unemployed bum (was made redundant last year) i cant afford it..
seem though i now know you can edit 60fps i would keep it at that to keep the smooth crisp footage...
but there is no harm in experimenting and trying out different setting to see what works....
have you seen the wonderful world of twixtor yet thats amzing for slow mo's.www.bearbackbiking.com

Take a look at the vids on my YouTube page, there all filmed with the HD Hero 2 @ 1080p 30fps
On one of them the quality is a little poor as something went wrong between the conversion and uploading to YouTube, apart from that the rest look spot on.0 -

youtube only supports 30fps anyways... so if its going on there you may as well record in 3fps!0 -
Didn't realise that, cheers for the heads up.0

720 @ 30 is good takes up little space and a good quality image, 960 gives you a slight fishbowl effect so I aint a fan.
1080 @ 30 is best obviously quality, just whack in a 32GB class 10 card (the class 10 is more for uploading to the computer) and you're fine you only really need 60 fps if you want to do slow-mo shots.0 -
does'nt the go pro hd not support class 10 cards or certain class 10 cards,,
i believe there are a few problem regarding sd cards with gopro's...www.bearbackbiking.com

I've not had a problem with cards in my 960 either but I don't go for totally el cheapo ones, not super awesome either though.
I record in 960 at 30fps on mine and the vids always come out looking pretty nice, hope that helpsWhether you're a king or a little street sweeper, sooner or later you'll dance with the reaper.
