Today there is the most beautiful day of the year in my home country. Please join us and celebrate with all the Poles!

The day is called Fat Thursday. What you are obligated to do is go and buy as many doughnuts as you can and then eat them, enjoying the fact that's the only time in the year the doughnuts won't make you fat :-)

Doesn't Mardi Gras literally translate to English as Fat Tuesday?

  • Yep, Mardi Gras = Fat Tuesday (aka Shrove Tuesday).

Loving the Polish tradition of Doughnuts Thursday though not so keen on the Herring Tuesday bit...

Nothing wrong with a bit of raw herring.

    It's gorgeous.

Have mentioned this to my Polish colleague, who looked confused by 'Doughnut Thursday' but after a moment worked out what I was on about. Will get into the spirit of things

Regarding the herring thing: c'mooooon! Do you really think fish is the main "dish" that day? ;)
