Garmin 800 mapping/navigation

Struggling with setting/making my Garmin 800 navigate a route. I mapped the chosen route using the ridewithgps website, transferred the GPX file onto it and then set off. While it shows a plot of the route I wanted to make it beep at the junctions or say on the screen to turn right/left/straight on at the junction. I am sure in the past I have certainly had it beep when I required a turn? If it helps its got gb trail maps on it.
Urgently need to sort this out as I am relying on it navigating me along a chosen route soon.

I use the OSM maps and have downloaded gpx routes recorded on Strava to test the navigation and this has worked fine. Do you have Turn Guidance and Off-course warnings turned on for the course?"Mummy Mummy, when will I grow up?"

+1
After selecting the route, before you click 'GO', slick on the Options/Settings icon on the bottom left - and change the above settings.Simon0 -

Yep both are turned to on.0 -
I have occasionally found that this doesnt happen on mine - despite setting the settings, and using the same route that I have used successfully and left untampered on the device. I think I may have identified the cause though - I noticed that if I selected the course and set off before getting a GPS fix, I wasnt getting turn by turn. However if I pull over and tell it to use the route again (after GPS fix found) then the guidance works. Have had this twice now, so I think I have identified the cause as stated, but the next ride may prove me wrong!0

WOW, Thanks APR, I had exactly the same happen last night, only I stopped and pressed random buttons till it worked again, so had no idea how to fix it again :oops:My Pinarello Gallileo and Boardman CX.0

Thanks, this worked for me as well. Got a beep at each turn and a tune at the end (bit of a surprise). I've only just got my Edge 800 and on my two previous rides it wouldn't navigate a route properly.0

+1 for APR - Great tip!! No I have to work out why it kept sending me back to some random point on the course now....?
(In fairness, I think it's because some of the bike paths in NL are nt on the Garmin City Maps...)We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence
