Bibshorts – leg length vs size

I know all makers of bibshorts have their own take on sizing, one brand's L is another's XL, but does the leg length of bibshorts change much throughout a particular brand's size range? For example, to get a longer leg length do you have to go up in size with the possibility that a larger size may b too loose fitting?

I have a pair of Santini shorts which are XXL and they are a very close fit. They're comfortable and leg length is fine until I actually start pedalling, which causes the leg length to shrink at least an inch. The tight fitting doesn't help to keep these shorts in place. All a bit too Sean Yates for my taste (sorry Mr Yates).

Anyone enlighten me?

don't know but I like a longer leg and Giordana is the best I've found for this. Castelli and Gore are just a tad too short.

  • Ah, I haven't tried Giordana. Quite a few models in the range. Which ones do you prefer?

Assos make a longer leg length version in their Mille shorts.
  • Yep, but I'm really not close to an Assos budget.

Some manufacturers give an inseam for the medium size eg 9 inches for Mavic if I remember. This is a start but how much longer, ifa at all, are the large or extra large? And how much shorter the small?

Not an exact science I know as all manufacturers have their own idea about size, inseam sizing could be useful.

I've also had Tenax in the past, which are a good budget bibshort, but they're now discontinued, I think.
