Evening all,

First bit of advice required. I'm looking to go clipless and it seems Shimano M520s with SPDs would suit my bike-train-bike commute best. I've narrowed it down to the Specialized BG Sport Touring (http://www.evanscycles.com/products/spe ... e-ec025555) or the BG Sport MTB (http://www.evanscycles.com/products/spe ... e-ec025874) as I like the fit of Specialized.

Although the Touring is better on paper (and I prefer the looks), the cleat recess looks deeper on the MTB and for various reasons I may need to do a fair bit of walking around in them when between work sites so would rather no cleat - ground contact!

Any thoughts or experiences, particularly with the Touring?

Cheers,

Jim

  • I've had the MTB Sport for a number of years now and have been very pleased. The touring does look like an interesting alternative (though I've never had a problem walking in the MTB) and I would be surprised if the cleat recess is actually less: surely for touring, being able to walk in the shoe is every bit as important as when MTBing?

I would say that the cleat recess would be fine on the Touring shoe however there isn't as much space to move the cleat about to get the correct position for yourself, on the MTB you can move the cleat forward/back and side to side.

Went for the Touring in the end - much more comfortable to walk in for me. Now just waiting for the pedals to turn up...
