Hi Everyone,
I currently have a 2011 Giant TCR Composite 2. this year im doing a few sportives and some very long charity rides.
My question is this. My bike has a full shimano 105 groupset and i was wondering would it be worth while upgrading to some Ultegra parts? as i hear they are more durable.
if so what components would you change?
Cheers

Wait until the 105 wears out.0

I have nearly an entire Ultegra groupset on my training bike (i put a fulcrum chainset on to replace the crappy FSA bog standard one because i'm a bit of a tart), & it is great. But from what i hear & read the 105 is a quality bit of kit & is highly respected. If it works well why change it? Just change bits to Ultegra when they need replacing like Flasher says. No point wasting money when you would be better off upgrading wheels, tyres, saddle.0

Ultegra is a bit lighter but i dont think more durable.
105 is decent and the improvement in quality to standard ultegra isn't huge. It would be more economic to upgrade as components wear out and need replaced rather than replace for the sake of replacing
However if it is ultegra di2 you want to upgrade too then that would offer something significantly different and would have greater value as an upgrade0 -
I have Ultegra on one bike and 105 on another....Along with the slightly different characteristics of the bikes, it is hard to tell the difference, in that both work faultlessly.......if you switched Ultegra to the 105 equipped bike and replaced that one with the 105...in terms of riding, I really wouldn't care much...so for charity rides...you should be fine!0

+1. There is minimal difference between my 105 and Ultegra bikes and I wouldn't spend the extra £ unless you've got it to chuck about. You'd be better off getting a light pair of wheels.Never mistake motion for action

The only time I upgrade is if parts wear or break. I have 105 on my race and TT bikes, I have put on Ultegra parts if I can get them cheaper from Ebay than retail. Very little in it but I do prefer the changing on Ultegra cassettes compared to 105.Norfolk, who nicked all the hills?
