XT Rear mech, part broken...

I've just noticed after my ride in Llandegla that I have a peice that has broken off on my rear mech...

It's a small peice inbetween the top and bottom jocky wheel that keeps the chain in line with the hanger..

However this part seems to have gone missing...

The chain now sits just behind the metal cage.. Will this affect things very much do you think??

It's just seems a really odd thing to get broken off.... As it would appear to be relatively out the way.. So I have no idea how it happened...

it's quite hard to explain what bit this is, but those familiar with the XT hanger will know which bit after looking at the pics..

  • I think you're fine. The chain line hasn't altered - it's supposed to go behind that tab.

I suppose the chain could flap and get caught on what's left, but I'd be tempted to carry on and see how it goes before shelling out for a new one. You could always file it off altogether.

Did you have the chain on the other side of it? If so it was on the wrong side and you wore it away.
That tab shouldn't touch the chain.

oh pants.... yes i had it on the side nearest the pedals.. not behind it ( furthest away )

So if thats the case.. it won't make any difference then...

    This.^^

It's also the most common mistake that is made from user fitting chain for the first time.
