RS Reba - shortening travel - why?

My new bike (first with suspension forks) has RS Reba, and came with two plastic collars which I have been told is so that I can reduce the travel.

My question is why would I want to do that? What are the pros and cons of running it as it is (100mm) compared to reduced (I'm guessing 90mm, looking at the spacer size)

You might want to fit it to a shorter travel frame that isn't warrantied for the length, or that is designed around the shorter travel. Or sometimes, just a matter of taste. You may also be able to lengthen it.

Or you are an XC whippet and race a lot, in which case, much above 80mm isn't neccessary
