hi all, for christmas, i bought my housemate a british cycling race license and entered him (and me) into the xc events round 2 at dalby in april.
the route says its 3 laps....... anyone know how long a lap is? what course they use?
as the race starts at 3pm, i wouldnt expect it to be too long :?
and as its my birthday, it better not be as the bbq will be in full swing!
anyone up for joining us, its our first (and probs last) race, so could be a laugh!

Last year it was the World Cup course minus the Dixon's Hollow section. Previously it has been the whole WC route.
Here are last years results, lap times from 16:32 to 30 mins+
If it's sub-20 mins I'd expect laps to be upped.
I'll be there in Expert. 5 laps for us last year, which is one more than advertised.0 -
just lookied at the world cup course on you tube. this is going to be fun!
what equiptment do i need?
what bike is best suited for it?
should i take the hard tail with 2.1 knobblies or do i take the full sus with 2.5 high rollers?
fitness wise, im going to be last and technical ability im going to be last!0 -
Well it's an XC race, so of those 2 I'd definitely say the hardtail, unless you fit more 'racey' tyres to the FS (depending what it is?), take the one you're happier riding. There are only 2 technical sections really - Worry Gill, which is just a roll in, lean back, don't brake. The way the chicken run was last year it was barely slower. Looks like this:
The other bit is Medusa's Drop, which is a steep rooty chute, chicken run's about 5 seconds slower assuming a clear run at the a-line.
You don't need any equipment other than bike (with bar end plugs) and helmet. I'll be honest, it's probably going to be quite a shock... Which category are you racing?0 -
we are both in the mens open cat on saturday. starting at 3pm, so we should be finished by sunday!
the prep is going well.... i have the bbq sorted!0 -
Not sure how that's going to work, as most people are pre-riding on Saturday, could be interesting! You'll be around to shout at everyone on Sunday anyway. Plenty of spectators go to Worry Gill and the like to watch.0

well, it looks like its going to be a boggy one. i have opted for the full sus and maxxis tyres as i expect it to be a bit boggy in places.
good luck to everyone going and say hi to the fat bald bloke on a pure white GT i drive (who will be looking like death! )
what are you riding njee20? are you camping over?
if so, come and find us and share a beer!0 -
Actually things have changed for me, I got caught in a crash at the first round, so I'm not gridded, and there's a more local race on, so as the weather looks so bad and I'll no doubt have a bad race I'm avoiding the 5 hour drive!
Good luck though, as you say, looks like it'll be wet...!0 -
well, it was a disaster!
i will upload some pics when i get the camera back, but at one point the tent was an inch deep in hail and snow!
went out for the practice run on sat morning and there was absolutly no traction or grip anywhere. people were slipping off on adderstone field!
anyways, made it round worry gill and managed to stuff it on the flat fast straight just after. basically, the bike slid sideways through the river of mud flowing across and put me into a bog, i managed to save it for a short while (on the front wheel for a good 20 meters) before the wheel dug in and threw me over the bars, landing me in a nettle bush!
that hurt a little bit, so after a breif stop to get un winded, we carried on and were pushing the bikes most of the way round and up medusas, before sliding back down with the grace of a rabid elephant. the bikes just went, so you followed whichever line the river took you. got back to the start and we found that my mate had also cracked his frame at the seatpost tube weld, so that was that!
bikes 196 and 197 retired before it started!0 -
Rubbish! Have to say I'm bloody glad I didn't go, the Gorrick was great fun!0

That picture above makes Worry Gill look a lot tamer than it looked this weekend when I was wimping out of it!0

Agreed, looks really easy from every angle but the top!0
