Looking for somewhere Kingston/Richmond/Hampton to take Mrs CJ (not for V-Day!).

Want to try somewhere different to the French Table and A Cena.

Cheers.
FCN 2-4.

A good cheap Italian is Al Forno on the High Street. We tend to take the kids there, probably not for a nice meal with the Mrs though. You walk passed a full Pizza Express and right next door is a proper Italian place with better pizzas.
Took the Mrs to Jamies Italian. Much better than I expected, but it was lunchtime as we both had a day off. I think you always have to queue of an evening. Close to us and different is the posh curry shop at the bottom of Kingston Hill. Can't remember the name but tried it when it first opened and it was very good. I had Chicken Tikka Laphroaig.
We don't often get to eat out these days so I'm struggling to think of much more. I know several good pubs though.

Roz Ana. Do like it, but had curry on Friday, so got a taste for something else. (Btw, try Classic Curry Company on Burrough Road, near Eurowines. Fantastic food, and very reasonable prices.)

Not going to Jamie's. Never been there, in fact, but I. AM. NOT. QUEUING. Especially not in winter.

I agre about not queuing. That's why I agreed as there wasn't one. I was ready to hate it and say it was overhyped nonsense, but the food was good and not unreasonably priced. Lots of ladies who lunch in there.
I would not recommend the Riverside Vegetariana. Wife doesn't eat meat so we went there once. Supposedly won awards, not impressed. It's like a joke stereotype veggie restaurant. The people at the next table were even talking about yoga.
Talking of Borough Road, The Pottery is ok. Used to be The Borough Arms, which wasn't so good.

You're kidding me. Just looked that up. Will try it tomorrow. Or maybe Wednesday (got both days off). I thought I knew everywhere round here (within reason).

I'm not particularly impressed by the Pottery, over-priced and weird portion sizes. Saying that, Jackson a great guy so we still go there.

Kingston is crap for restaurants. Fact. You'll no doubt end up in the Canbury.
  • A few miles away from where you are looking, but Chez Bruce never fails to deliver.

Funny how we are clouded by our experiences. I consider The Canbury overpriced, but then I avoid it like the plague after what I considered to be very poor service, exacerbated by a bad attitude. Never had a bad experience in the Pottery.
Friends of mine that go more often say that it can be a bit hit and miss. Although I'm told steak night is very good.
Mind you that really was bad when it was just a regular boozer. The old landlord used to drink in the Wych Elm his own pub was that bad.

I'm going to Don Fernandos in Richmond tomorrow. Tapas place and always looks busy. Always smells great when you walk past and even though its Feb 14th they are keeping their normal menu. Let you know how it is.

If you aren't taking your Mrs out for V day I'll assume I can?

+2, we went there the day we got engaged! Very very nice. If you go for lunch Monday - Saturday it's only £27.50.

Retro on Teddington high street is brilliant. Food is amazing and the set menu is very good value. I'd eat there every day if I could afford it.

What about Chez Lindsay in Richmond? Get to Richmond a bit earlier and you could pop into B@1 a few doors down for some lovely 2 for 1 cocktails!

We went a while ago and had a few of their pancakes which were delicious!

Only one restaurant in Richmond - the Bingham:

Had our wedding reception there, really good, but it was a good while ago. And I believe it's got better since.

Nice food but a rather granny-ish atmosphere. Bingham gets my vote. Gaucho's not bad (but expensive). Chez Lindsay we've always found quite disappointing. If you fancy a curry Aangan is a good place, great food and very friendly staff.

Bit further away in North Cheam, but this place is one of the best Chinese restaurants I've every eaten in. http://www.theemperor.co.uk/ don't be put off by the all you can eat menu, it's not a buffet (unless you go Sunday lunchtime) everything is freshly cooked and fabulous. Don't forget to book as they are normally maxed out.

We've been to the Glasshouse a couple of times and while the food's great (like all the Chez Brucie places!) the service was off both times, so we stick to La Trompette / Ledbury.

PS - TimeOut need to work on their maths - they averaged a 4-star and 1-star review as 4 overall :P

La Trompette is owned by same people as Chez Bruce and the Glasshouse.

Ledbury is a different level altogether.

What about the French Table. Its meant to be great? I've not been.
God I've not eaten out properly in ages.

Way OT, but does anyone know what this place in Clerkenwell is to the left of The Modern Pantry?
    http://g.co/maps/s2djy
Its a pub/bar of sorts, but with apparently no external advertising. Popped in there after dinner at Pantry last week and it was pretty nice. Just thought it was weird that from the outside it looks like someone's front room. Just wondering if we ended up gatecrashing a private club by accident.

    I'm intrigued.

But a "pub" might not cut it. On this occasion, it needs to be a "restaurant".

But I'll bear this one in mind for Sunday lunch in the very near future.
