Hi - I am looking to spend up to £900 on a new MTB. I have been looking at Specialized Rockhopper Expert and the Trek 6300. Now anyone got any idea which would be better, with regard to spec, weight etc.? Can't find any reviews of Trek 6300, but plenty on the RockHopper ... is this telling me something?
Thanks for any advice!

That would be useful eh? Here we go:
RH Expert: http://www.worcestercyclecentre.com/ind ... t&Itemid=7
Trek 6300: http://www.worcestercyclecentre.com/ind ... t&Itemid=7
If anyone can help I would be really appreciative ...0 -
The Trek has better forks, but both are very expensive for the spec.
I would look elsewhere.
At this

or this

Which is as well specced as the ones you posted, at a lot less.
Or have a look at some sales - Pauls Cycles and others, some amazing deals on older models.I don't do smileys.

Ok gone with the Rockhopper Expert, rode this morning and felt more responsive than the trek - there was just something about the Rockhopper that I liked more. Cheers for your help and advice!0

both of those are really expensive for what you get in my opinion... I'd go for the boardman... the spec on that is really nice....

Compare the spec on those to this:http://www.canyon.com/_uk/mountainbikes/bike.html?b=25392006 Giant XTC

I'm also looking for a good XC hardtail at this price point. Having seen the Lapierre Raid 700 Hardtail in the flesh, I would have one over the Shrek. The seatposts on my last Lapierre weighed almost 1lbs, so if it has the seatpost I sure you could shave a pound and bring the bike down to 27lbs. After calling Ubyk they said they can offer me a custom build Pipedreams with Reynolds 853 butted main tubes for just under £1000. Like the look of the frames - have an old skool look to them.

Just a note ... had my Rockhopper Expert awhile now and still very very pleased, it's light, very quick and all set up nicely. Forks are not air forks but do they job nicely for me. Would recommend a Rockhopper to those who do not wish to spend an absolute fortune but who want a good quality, time tested bike.0

Time tested? They have a different frame just about every year lol, and Spesh don't even make it, Merida do (as they do Boardman and Decathlon). Sure, is a nice bike, but no more quality or time tested than others really.
But you have done the most important thing and that is try it out.0 -
I thought the M4 frame was a standard on the Rockhoppers, sure they will modify and upgrade but the basic M4 design stays the same, does it not? Does anyone else but Merida make frames these days?! I noticed the 'made in Taiwan' sticker on the frame! Great bike for what I need and I have been really impressed in the way it handles.
It amazes me that people don't test ride different bikes to find the one that fits!0 -
It has moved from A1 alloy, to M4 alloy, which is a little stronger - they subtley alter the frame shape every two years or so. Thing is they feel quite different to ride over the years! Good quality though, welding is fantastic on these things. Merida are huge, they own a big chunk of Specialized and make all their frames bar some carbon ones.0

oh ok, I didn't know Merida owned part of Specialized. My RH does feel great to ride, well pleased with it!0
