Hi guys

I'm looking to get a 2011 Kona Tanuki using the cycle to work scheme.

I have found one reduced from £1400 to £950 so it's within the £1000 limit.

While doing a little reading on the Tanuki, I seen that it could do with new forks and a rear suspension as upgrades.

Can anyone recommend me whats the minimum fork and suss I should be looking at to upgrade too.

Or better still, if there are any better bikes out there over the Kona for me within the £1000 limit?

My riding style is aggressive XC....so do like to have a little bit of bounce when playing ;)

Who says it needs a new shock and fork ! If its a mtb mag i wouldnt worry about it they ride all kinds of exotic gear and basically slag anything off that isnt rockshox or fox !

Id use the stuff thats on it then upgrade a year down the line when its worn out or look at stuff thats had decent reviews off people on here such as the boardman fs team for a grand or a canyon xc 6 for a bit more.
The family that rides together stays together !

I can't find the review where they state it should get upgraded ASAP :(

Come to think of it now, maybe it was a different bike after all

    Brill, thanks for your input!

Would you or anybody else for that matter, recommend any other brand new full suss for under a grand?

Or would you say I've picked a good un!? ;)

Theres some good deals on mongoose teocali and Giant Trances around at the moment. I read the review of the tanuki and it didnt make it sound particularly inspiring!
  • ive got the standard 2011 tanuki i paid £850 for mine back in april ive been abusing it every weekend since and i cant fault it, so i would say its a good buy
  • I have the supreme and cant fault it.

The rear shock on the Kona is not the best.

For a tough bike, have a look at this:

    http://paulscycles.co.uk/products.php?p ... Suspension

Great suspesnion, amazing rear shock and a fork that out perfroms all the Rockshox Turnkey stuff.

Ye, I had the mongoose in my basket for a while.

The only thing which has put me off is my mate in work!

I told him I was intersted in the teocali and he said " you don't want to get one of those"!

When I was in the saddle last in 2007/08 they were pretty good bikes and getting rave reviews, but after his comment, which was in passing I haven't been to sure of them?

Can anyone think of any reason why the mongoose shouldn't be on my list?

Or is this just plain bike snobbery!?

Tbh that's what I thought, but he's right into MTB, regulary doing 50k rides, loads of single track trails etc etc

I just think it was snobbery at its finest!

Anyway, any owner recommendations/reviews for the teocali!?
