Scratch on carbon seatpost
Hi.
I've just noticed a scratch on my carbon seatpost which looks like it was made by the top edge of the frame by the slot, probably when I took the post out and reinserted it after sorting a problem with the saddle clamp. It doesn't look deep and is vertical and I think I must have put the post in too far and then brought it back up to the correct height. My maintenance book has warnings of damaged fibres caused by the seat clamp and slot. Should this go straight in the bin?
Thanks for any advice
Kevin

a photo would help though a small scratch could be impossible to photograph !
Scratch to the lacquer shouldn't be an issue; how deep does it go ? its the carbon under you need to be careful with. t it only happened when the post slipped down; and not from tightening; it should be just fine. One point tho...take the post out a gently file down the bit in the frame that caused the issue. Check the part of the post that engages with the seat clamp; if this part is damaged it could be worse0 -
As above - it'll likely just be a scratch in the clearcoat / laquer. Pretty easy to touch in with some laquer / clear nail varnish.
Just dont use your best red nail varnish that you wear on Saturday nights0 -
Thanks. I'll get my files out later. And when I've finished my nails I'll look at the bike. If I can get a photo I'll try to work out how to post it.0

Hmmm - I put a scratch line in all my seatposts about 5mm above the ideal height - that way I know the bike is reassembled at the right point - what's the fretting about?http://veloviewer.com/SigImage.php?a=3370a&r=3&c=5&u=M&g=p&f=abcdefghij&z=a.png

Lack of knowledge on my part coupled with a comment in Zinn and the art of road bike maintenance about damage that can be done to a seat tube by the frame. Rather keen not to end up with several inches of splintered carbon rather too close to me nether regions. But if i'm fretting about nothing then I'm happy. Thanks0
