Saturday Training Rides in Cornwall

I'm visiting Cornwall next week, and was hoping to get a ride in on Saturday while my wife is visiting her sister.
I'm staying in the Bodmin area but can travel if there are any groups / clubs / individuals out on Saturday.
Any ideas?

Thanks
Richard

    You could try this lot:

Failing that, the BC page has a few hits that are close (although one is a triathlon club so you will need to cut your sleeves off to fit in  ):

Rutrainingtoday CC (Google) a new club based in Plymouth, they do a race aimed ride and a more leisurely training ride, leaves Legacy Hotel, Marsh Mills roundabout @ 0900, its a 1/2 drive from Bodmin, they ll go out for about 3-4 hrs max.
There is another club - Yogi cc - again meet at 0900 and nr to Marsh Mills as well - but they have a rep for huge grps, they do 3 levels of ride, but all end up all very similar in pace.
One and All cycling down in Cornwall is good but its a good 1hr + to get there. Newquay Velo as well but you ll have to Google them.

One and All's main club run is on a Sunday as most others. On Saturdays they do usually have a small group that go out together but they don't usually go that far or that fast tbh, more social than anything. Driving from Bodmin to Bissoe is a long way for a short social ride.

I'll probably be heading out on Saturday for a couple of hours if you fancy it?

Based in Bude, so drop me a PM if you fancy it or don't get anything else sorted. I can treat you to Millook if you like!!?? ;)

  • All great replies and what a brilliant county to cycle in. One of my best all time favourite coastal roads to cycle is in Cornwall, from St Ives to Lands End, simply stunning.

    Have a great time

North Coast B3306, I'd offer to go out down this way but got football on Saturday. Love this road on a nice Summer's day, definitely worth making the trip for.
  • Thanks for all your replies & suggestions.
I'm hoping to head out with foldingjoe this Saturday but I will be in Cornwall for a week at the end of August so the coast road down by St Ives sounds like a must do.

    Thanks again

  • hi im a member of the yogi cycling club and there are 3 different av speed levels 12, 14 and 16 on the sat ranging from 30-60 miles they leave at 9am and mid way through the trip take a stop at a cafe, im sure if you head down there they will not mind you joining in for one session.
  • Thanks again for all your replies. I ventured out on Saturday, going from Bodmin to Bude and back. The wind and driving rain made for some interesting riding but on the whole I had an enjoyable day. I naively underestimated the terrain and gained over 5000ft ascent in the 65 or so miles I was out. I can only imagine how hard the Cornwall Tor is, even in good weather!

I will definitely be back down in the near future if anyone fancies it.

  • Sounds like you had a great time in the West Country Richard and sampled our testing hills. I still think that cycling in Devon and Cornwall can provide some of the sharpest hills around!

If you fancy a lumpy 100 mile sportive with stunning coastline thrown in or perhaps a less lumpy 100 km, try Sunday 8th July http://www.jurassic-classic.org.uk

    Bizzare turn of events.

I was due to go out with Richard on Saturday, but as it was my birthday my wife had other plans... Anyway, out at lunch with my family and who should be eating in the same restaurant - a wet and bedraggled Richard!!

At least he knew my excuse was valid.

Shame because I think Richard picked the worst day of the weekend. Sunday was beautiful.
