UK MTB while pleasing SWMBO with some site seeing!

Looking to go away for a week with friends later this year for a week in the UK and want somewhere to go with a bit of good MTB for me and my mate but also offer some interest for our other halves who have little interest in MTB....

Have covered most of Wales in the recent years, so thinking somewhere along the lines of Peak / Lake Districts or maybe North Yorkshire to head to Dalby Forest.

We will be looking for a Holiday home for the week so any recommendations on that front would be good.

    Hope is good - nice place. Good eating around. Nice walking. Fab mountain biking.
    PLUS is has a station - easy train trip to somewhere ghastly like Meadowhall if femail retail therapy is good.
    MTB or Road - They are both good!
